It’s one of the most practical questions we get from homeowners in Cincinnati, Mason and West Chester: how often should we actually have someone come in?
The honest answer is that it depends on your household, but there are patterns that make a lot of sense for most families. Here’s a straightforward guide to help you figure out what fits.
The most common schedules (and who they work for)
Every two weeks is a popular choice for busy households with kids and pets. Life in Hyde Park, Madeira or Anderson Township moves fast, and two weeks is about how long it takes for a clean home to start feeling like it needs attention again. Floors collect dust and pet hair, bathrooms start showing buildup, and the kitchen needs more than a quick wipe. Cleaning every two weeks keeps all of that in check without cleaning taking over your weekend.
Weekly is the right call if your household generates a lot of mess quickly: multiple pets, young kids who are home most of the day, or a high-traffic home where people are in and out constantly. Weekly visits keep the baseline consistently high, so you’re never catching up.
Every four weeks can work for smaller households, couples without kids, or homes that are used lightly through the week. It’s also a reasonable starting point if you’re not sure how often you need someone. You’ll know quickly whether it’s enough or whether you want to bump up the frequency.
One-time or occasional cleanings are great for specific situations: before a big gathering, after a renovation, when you’re moving in or out, or as a gift to someone who could use a break. They aren’t meant to replace a regular schedule, but they serve a real purpose.
What each schedule costs
Recurring cleaning is discounted from the second visit; the first visit is full price. Using a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home of 1,500 to 1,999 sq ft ($265 per visit at full price) as the example:
| Schedule | Discount from 2nd visit | Price per visit after the first |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly | 20% | $212.00 |
| Every 2 weeks | 15% | $225.25 |
| Every 4 weeks | 10% | $238.50 |
Prices are before the 7.8% sales tax. Your exact price depends on bedrooms, bathrooms and square footage, and is shown online before you book. See pricing for the full grid.
Factors that affect how often you need a cleaner
Beyond the schedule options, a few things push most families toward cleaning more often.
- Pets. Dogs and cats shed constantly, and dander settles on floors, furniture and surfaces all week. With more than one pet, or a breed that sheds heavily, every two weeks is usually the minimum to stay on top of it.
- Kids at home. School-age kids in Loveland or Montgomery coming in from outside every afternoon, sticky counters, bathroom messes and homework spread across the table add up fast. Families with kids at home usually prefer weekly or every two weeks.
- Both adults working full-time. When two people work full-time and manage everything else, weekends become precious. Spending Saturday morning cleaning bathrooms instead of doing something you want to do is a real cost. A regular schedule solves that directly.
- Home size. Larger homes take more time to maintain. With four or more bedrooms, multiple bathrooms and significant square footage, a visit every four weeks will only scratch the surface. Every two weeks keeps things manageable.
Start with a deeper first visit
If you’re scheduling professional cleaning for the first time, or coming back after a gap, the first visit should go deeper than a maintenance visit. Our First Time Clean adds extra detail work to the first visit only. It gets your home to a true starting point, so the regular cleanings that follow maintain that standard instead of constantly catching up.
Many Cincinnati homeowners find that after that first visit, cleaning every two weeks is enough to keep everything in good shape without much effort in between. For what that first visit looks like, see what to expect from your first house cleaning.
What happens if you go too long between cleanings
Stretch the time between visits too far and each cleaning takes more time and effort. Buildup in bathrooms, grease in the kitchen and accumulated dust mean the cleaner spends the visit getting back to baseline instead of maintaining a clean home.
For most households, going longer than four weeks between cleanings means the home never quite reaches the level of clean that changes how it feels to live there.
How to decide
If you’re on the fence, start with every two weeks. It’s where many families land after trying a few options, and it tends to deliver the clearest return: a home that always feels clean and weekends that are actually free.
If your budget or schedule calls for something different, every four weeks is a reasonable starting point. You can adjust once you see how the house responds. There’s no long-term contract; just give us 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a visit.
